Ok on with the vibe .
A big thing I always hear people talking about is "can you shave your huskies" and when they receive the answer no , the question becomes , "well why not?"

I'm here today to share a bit of info on why you can't shave your husky and fill you in on the reasons behind that.

So you might be thinking, well they have this big thick double coat, and in the summer they seem hot, so why not shave them to cool them down?

Actually, if you shaved your husky in the summer, you would do the complete opposite of cooling him down.
And much worse while your at it.

When we humans get hot, our body sweats and works as a cooling system BUT dogs do not work like this.
A dogs cooling system is through his mouth, when they pant, it works basically the same as when we sweat.

A Siberian husky has little to no pigmentation in their skin, thereby making their skin an extra big target for the sun to burn.
This of course putting your husky at a much larger risk for things like skin cancer as well.

The beautiful double coat of a Siberian Husky is a multi tasker . In those harsh cold weather conditions their coat keeps them toasty warm. But in the summer it actually helps them cool down. It protects them from the sun which is why it can be super harmful and not at all helpful if you were to shave them.
AND
Having their lovely double coat also acts as a protector against certain parasites . So shaving your husky puts him at risk this way as well.

Shaving them will also disrupt their natural shedding process when you decide to let their fur grow back in. And a lot of the times I have heard that their beautiful coat will not grow back properly once shaved.

So to wrap it up, no it is not ok to shave your husky, the only time he should be shaved is if it is required for medical reasons or if he by chance is a rescue who is severely matted. And remember , summers do get hot and our pets enjoy nice cool air conditioning as much if not more then we do! The best way to keep your dog cool in hot weather is just that! Keep them in the cool air with you, if they are outdoors, make sure they have shade, water, etc... Also try and save your walks for the evening, when the sun goes down It makes for a much nicer walk for both dog and human, to not be out in the beating down sun.

Thanks for reading everyone and I hope you all had a PAWsome day yesterday with your loved ones ♥

  3. Hi Y'all!

Dog's that spend lots of time outdoors should always have their natural coats. Mine protects me when we're hiking, especially if I'm running off leash. I'd hate to have briars snagging my bare skin all over!

    Y'all come by now,

  14. I never knew those things. Last summer when my peeps were going shopping, they heard barking and saw 2 huskies in a car with the windows cracked in the blazing sun. TW wanted to go into Petland and scream at whoever left them.

    1. Thanks for coming by! And Yea lots of people had heard not to shave them but nobody really knew why.
That's horrible when people leave their pets in a hot car and that unfortunately often turns up a lot of dead pups :(
