Husky Noms! Treat time!

Hiya everyone!

Today's letter in the #atozchallenge is "S"
"S" is for Savory!

A few days ago I shared a homemade doggie birthday cake (so to speak.) It was Koda's very first birthday! In case you missed it, feel free to check it out HERE!

I told you guys I would be sharing the recipe I used for my creation, so I am joining the Tasty Tuesday blog hop.

As you can see, he enjoyed his birthday cake . . .

I used a basic recipe for the first part of his cake. A basic recipe because . . . well , I am a basic kinda baker. Meaning I SUCK at baking! But hey, these turned out pretty darn good if I do say so myself!

All you need is :

  • 2.5 cups all natural whole wheat flour
  • 1 organic egg
  • .5 cup organic chicken broth
  • And one little three year old girl to help mix ingredients.  :)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees
Mix up your ingredients , be sure to wash your hands before and after.
My little girl loved this part, because she got to get her hands dirty!

I had to make a few tweaks at this point, as it was a wee bit dry. So I simply added a touch more of the organic chicken broth.

Next up , form  your dough into a ball .

Roll your ball of dough until it reaches about .5 inch thickness.

Then get out your cutters. In this case I used my dog bone cookie cutters.

FYI it was my daughters job to sprinkle the flour on the counter so the dough would not stick . . . I think she overdid it a tiny bit! BOL!

For Koda's cake, I used three or four different size bone cutters.

Next, place treats on a sprayed or buttered baking sheet.

Next, you will want to poke some holes in your treats. I used a fork. Simple, basic.

Place in oven and bake for 20-25 mins or until crispy. I only had these in for about 15 minutes and that was plenty for our oven. Yours may vary.

Here is what the finished biscuits looked like.

Now it was time to customize these into birthday cakes for the huskies.

You can sort of do your own thing here, but this is what I came up with.
I took the largest biscuit, and spread some peanut butter on it , I then added one slice of beggin strips bacon (for dogs) and put more peanut butter on top of that, and a smaller size biscuit for the top.
I added a dollop of peanut butter on the very top of the cake and stuck a treat and a candle in it.

I also stuck a little treat in all four sides of the cake.
The treats I used were Fruitables apple bacon treats (for dogs)

For the other two huskies I did something similar, however I used only one biscuit and peanut butter with a couple treats on top. (and a side of beggin strips bacon)
It was Koda's special day after all.

Here is what my finished creation looked like :

It may not look the prettiest, but the huskies loved it, and Koda felt spoiled and that is what was important!

Here is a photo of the pack enjoying their cake!

I call it : Birthday Biscuit Dog Cake.

My daughter and I also made some super yummy chocolate chip cookies!
Maybe I am getting the hang of this baking thing after all?

  4. The Biscuit Cakes look yummy! Unfortunately, I won't eat peanut butter (Ma thinks I am the only dog on the planet who doesn't like peanut butter) so we would have to substitute something else.

  10. Great job! I think simple and basic is the way to go with baking or cooking....who has time to get fancy? But you were very creative when putting them together. I thought they looked great, but really, we know the dogs don't care how they looked. They just love the fact that you used peanut butter to hold it all together....that was a great idea!
Now, as soon as I find some time to bake, we'll be trying these!
