National Dog Fighting Awareness Day

Hello everybody.

Today is the day to be the voice! Join us as we do our part in spreading awareness.
Today is National Dog Fighting Awareness day.

Please join Myself, Melissa at Barking from the Bayou , Sarah from Lola the Pitty and Sue from
Talking Dogs Blog as we help host a special Tuesday Tails blog hop. Which is originally hosted by Lisa from Dogs 'n' Pawz .

Thanks to Sara for making our lovely badge for the hop! There is no better way to say it.
"Were fighting so they don't have to!"

Today is also letter "G" in the A to Z challenge , so for today I am choosing G is for GRUESOME!

The word gruesome pretty much sums up what I think about dog fighting.

Our posts are usually very happy , upbeat , feel good reads . Today is very different however.
Dog fighting is a serious issue , and it is not going away any time soon.

Even if your a person who does not know much about dog fighting , I am sure you will all recall Michael Vick? He is a famous football player who has became famous in more ways then one.
He was arrested for having a HUGE part in a dog fighting case years ago.

How much prison time did he do?
21 months!

Was that enough?
NO!

I am a HUGE Pitbull advocate and have been owned by Pitty's twice in my earlier years.
They are very sweet, loving pets.

So, if they are so sweet , why are they scary ? Why do they get chosen to be used as fighters?
Only the sick minded people who actually do these things know the true answer to that but the obvious answer is that these dogs are one big body full of muscle!

Did you know?
That these pups are often starved and tormented to the point where they have no choice but to snap. If you were locked away getting poked at with sticks, getting beaten by your "master" getting starved and being told to fight or die , how would you act?

Kill or be killed! These pups are only trying to survive!  They are not given a choice. Should these Pits refuse to fight ,they are simply killed and ditched.

How can you help?

  • Do not turn a blind eye! If you even so much as suspect that there is a dog fighting ring happening , report it!
  • Pay Attention! When people think dog fighting , you may think , out in the country in a secluded area etc...on the contrary! Dog fighting can be in basements , parking lots after hours , even in people's living rooms!
  • If it seems like you are always hearing a bunch of barking growling etc coming from a persons house , report it! Get it checked out even if you have doubts!
  • Do you often see people bringing different PitBulls into one house? Do the dogs have scars on them? Keep an eye out for all of these signs! Report anything you find suspicious!

The saddest part of this whole thing is , these poor dogs do not ask to have this done to them!
There are TONS of people in the world who are right at this moment , doing everything in their power to ban these dogs. Maybe even someone reading this right now!

Ban the people , not the dogs!

How is it that it is us humans who make these pets to do what we choose , yet we get off with a few months prison time and the pups are all killed. I don;t know if one single day goes by where I do not hear or read a news article of  a police man shooting down a PitBull family pet because the dog barked or how about all of these bans that are happening in more and more cities?

Banning the breed? Taking away family pets simply because of their breed?
 Whaaa?

What is happening here? Please help us make a stand!!!

Ban stupid people , not dogs!

I would like to take a moment to share a few pups who are in need of furever homes!
Please share this post and the others who have linked up to this hop as well! Help us spread the word and find some well deserved furever homes for the Pitty's in need.

Meet Trinity.
Trinity is right here in Canada at my local shelter LAWS
She is a Spayed 2 year old PitBull mix.
She is a big saucy sweetheart who loves nothing more then being the center of attention!
She gets along well with EVERYONE!
She is high energy and will require someone who can give her the exercise she needs.
For more information on Trinity please visit the Lanark Animal Welfare Society site.

My province is one of those who has a ban on this magnificent breed, so even though Trinity is up for adoption in Ontario, her adopters must come from outside of this province.

We also have a beautiful Pitbull named Sandy.
I found Sandy's article on a fellow bloggers post and am helping spread the word. Feel free to check out the original post HERE at The Lazy PitBull blog. Or for contact info and if you know someone who would like to adopt her simply click the Lazy PitBull link above.

Meet Sandy!
Sandy is from New Hampshire. She is one year old and has been rescued from a KILL shelter in New York. She is a beautiful calm loving girl.
She gets along well with other dogs , but her home would preferably have no small dogs or cats.
Sandy is described as a lover and just wants to give kisses non stop!
Sandy needs our help! Please share her story as well as Trinity's.
Lets find these pups a home!

Meet Angie!
Angie is currently located in New York City.
Angie was also rescued from a kill shelter and in desperate need of a foster or a home.
She is a lab/ PitBull mix.
She loves to cuddle and is great with children and cats.
Even if you cannot give these pups homes, the least we can do is share their story!
Angie is gorgeous, full of life and in need of love!
Can you help her?
For more info on Angie and how to get in contact please visit  The Lazy PitBull blog for more information.

A huge way you can help with the adoption of dogs is really quite simple. SHARE! All it takes is one click of a share button on someones site. You never know , the right person may see it and you could potentially save a life!

These dogs deserve love just like every other breed. Lets do our part on putting an end to dog fighting before authorities put an end to PitBulls! Be the Voice! End Dog Fighting!!!

Thank you for coming to read this post today. As a PitBull lover , this was a very powerful post for me to write. As I said I have a HUGE soft spot for PitBulls , and knowing first hand how sweet these pups are when they are treated right has really made me want to fight for them all the more!
Dog fighting is a disgrace! It is a GRUESOME business!
And there are ways you can help!
Do your part! And we will do ours!

Remember to share all of the posts you read today on the Tuesday tails Blog hop. The more we share, the more we get the word out about dog fighting and help our furiends find furever homes! Link up and join in the hop as well, share your views on dog fighting and feature an adoptable Bull or two.

WAIT! Before you go, we have this PAWsome video of a man literally being the "voice" of a PitBull.
Please take a moment to watch. It is a fun video, but it is very powerful and speaks the whole truth and nothing but the truth! So Please watch! This video is from Dogs 'n' Pawz.

  2. Thanks for a great post. It is so sickening to think about all that goes on with dogfighting. And to think there was just a big bust in Milwaukee - that is not too far away from us...at least they were able to stop a handful of people and save many dogs. I will continue to share this blog hop far and wide!

    1. Yes that's for sure! I heard about that bust..,,,,so glad those few dogs have been saved, so many others still suffer. We need to start blaming the humans and not the dogs, time to crack down! More busts! More people need to speak up!!!! Thanks for being involved with us for this! Your badges are beautiful!

  5. The breed is banned throughout much of Europe, but it hasn't solved any problems.

    ReplyDelete

    1. No it doesn't solve any problems at all! Dog fighting is illegal so why would people who host these dog fights care if the breed was illegal or not. Makes no sense and it is not their fault!
Thanks so much for coming by today Clowie :)

  6. We agree banning has not solved the problem and the punishments are not severe enough for such an ugly disgusting thing to be involved with. Have a terrific Tuesday.

  17. Great post, Jenna. It is all so sad...the dog fighting, the BSL, and all the Pit Bulls who need homes because they are misunderstood.
I used to pet sit for a pit mix and she is the sweetest dog ever....she just passed her Canine Good Citizen test too. Her Mom is so proud, and she rescued another Pittie also.
I enjoyed the video also, thanks for sharing it!

  19. Jenna this is a very touching and well written plea for Pit Bulls. I know it is the people who turn them into the vicious fighting dogs that they become, it is not the animal is born that way. It is beyond sad that this is tolerated but it is and celebrated in some circles. I wish we could put an total end to abuse of animals.

  20. Great story about Pits. Asking people to take part and help solve the problem is the best way to end dog fighting and the abuse that goes with it. All of the dogs you highlighted are so deserving of a good home! Will share.

  23. People should be banned not dogs. I was involved on Twitter with trying to save a poor pitty in Ireland who was taken away from her family just for her breed. She’s never hurt anybody, yet she was put to death.
