Thoughtless Thursday - Pet bloggers Infograpgic

Hiya everybody!
Having a fabulous Thursday I assume?

Today is the Thoughtless Thursday blog hop, hosted by : Ruckus the Eskie and co hosted by me, love is being owned by a husky! Feel free to link up with us if you have a blog and if not, just enjoy hopping around to see what everyone has thought of . .. . or not thought of, since it's Thoughtless Thursday! Ha!
As Ruckus says "Don't think, just link!"

I have mentioned before that I am a part of the Blog Paws Influencer group.

We, as pet bloggers, have a huge influence on the world of pet lovers, and pet owners. People turn to our blogs for help with training, feeding, pet health or even just to get a good laugh, and know your not alone in whatever struggles you may be going through.

One of the biggest reasons people like to read pet blogs, is to get some good info on different pet products. Being owned by our pets can be expensive, let's face it. But when you come to a blog and find the latest deals, or certain products you buy which half of the price goes to a shelter or whatever the case may be, people trust us. They trust our reviews, they trust how we say the quality of a certain product is etc . . . so it is important for us, as influencers in the pet world to give our readers what they want.

This month in the Pet Bloggers Influencer group, there was a survey about bloggers and brands working together.

Blog Paws has made this wonderful infographic to help us explain the results. (above)

Since the infographic is a little small, I will share some of it with you. Keep in mind this is all about bloggers working with different brands.

  • 75% of bloggers have bought a product after working with a brand.
  • 97% of bloggers said that they are the main purchasers of pet products in their home
We were asked how much  money (monthly) we spend on our pets. Food, supplies, etc . . .
  •  31% of bloggers said they spend UNDER $100 per month, 55% spend between $100 - $300, 55% said they spend between $301 and $500 and just 2% said they spend over $500 a month!
$500 each month?! Really? WOW!

We were asked how many of us donate to shelters, pet welfare or rescue causes :
  • 87% said yes
We were asked if it is part of our blog strategy to work with brands :
  • %85 said yes
We were asked where we shop for our pet products :
  •  14% said online. 38% said Independent Pet Supply stores. 14% said Big Box Chain stores. 52% said a combo of the above.
We were asked, how we use our pet blogger influencer voice :
  • 82% said Educate pet parents about health related topics. 84% said educate pet parents about products that are useful to them. 64% said help pets in need and 27% said variety of reasons.
Finally we were asked what type of retailers we would like to work with on our blogs :
  • 82% said they would like to work with a combination of online retailers, local Independent pet supply stores, pet specific big box chain stores, and mass non pet specific stores.
As you can see from those results in our wide variety of pet blog influencers, we each have our own idea of how we see our blogs, where we would like to go with them and what specific companies we would like to, or already are, working with. Which is a good thing. Readers need a good variety.

Personally, I will only work with a brand if I believe in them. I will agree to do a review for them, but I always tell the company that I will test whatever the product is first, then I will write an honest review. I will not just receive something and post about it. People rely on my reviews, and I will not endorse something I would not use for my own pets.

When I can conclude that something is safe and healthy for my pets, I will pass the info on to my readers.
I will not feed just "any" type of treats. I ALWAYS make sure the ingredients are healthy, and I do prefer if they are local treats, but that doesn't always happen.

I pride myself in the health and happiness of my huskies and kitties and I do what I can to pass on my findings to my readers, and provide my honest thoughts about whatever I may be reviewing.

Well guys, sorry for the long and wordy post! I'll leave you with that today!

Mika : "Um, mum, you do know that this was suppose to be the day to rest our brains right? THOUGHTLESS Thursday!??? Whats with the long post!? Just remind them about the giveaway and let them get on with their day!"

    1. Hiya Ruckus, and Happy Thoughtless Thursday to you!
I know you wouldn't, it is super important to review things honestly, having tried them for ourselves, otherwise why on earth would we want to pass on a product we know nothing about!? Thanks for coming by!

  4. No way would we endorse something we don't believe in and we seldom do reviews anyway but do find reading other bloggers reviews interesting. Have a tremendous Thursday.

  5. There are so many times we have the chance to be infleuntial. I was listening to someone talk about wanting a new dog and was able to tell her about options for finding the breed she wanted through breed rescue and where to locate them. She had some misconceptions about the process, but having been through it myself I was able to point her in the direction to get more info.

  8. I completely agree with your product review philosophy - I've turned down way more opportunities than I've accepted, whether it's because of fundamental disagreements on health/nutrition, or just due to me not being the right voice for the item.
And I find blogs that are overrun with product reviews to be pretty boring. Sure, I like info and recommendations, but I like reading advice, anecdotes and personal stories way more!

Also, I'm one of those who indicated >$500/month for pet costs :) Our food bills alone are in the $250-300 range, and then pet insurance brings us close to the $500. Add treats, supplies, kitty litter... yep, $500 is about average. Not that I'm complaining! We knew it would be pricey and our pets are worth it.

    1. That's great! Of course your pets are worth it! All of our pets definitely are. And I have spent that much in a month for my pets easy, just not every month on a monthly basis. Just under though. I enjoy doing product reviews, but I like to add my own personal touch to them. I don't like to drag on and on about the product. I prefer to show lots of photos of my pets using said product and how it helps or affects them etc...I try to make it interesting.
Thank you for coming by! Have a great day!

  9. I think the bond between reader and writer is so important! How will my reader trust me if I'm only trying to sell them a product, which is why I'm extremely careful about what I review, but I agree with you, you should always be honest. Sometimes if I'm not really caring for a product, I hate to write that because I feel bad, so I try and find different ways to word it.

    1. It is super important your right!
Honesty is key, so when a company contacts me for a review I always make sure they know that what I write WILL be my most honest opinion of their products.
Luckily, the products I have done so far have been great and I have not had to write a poor review. But I imagine it would be hard to find the right words.
      Thanks for coming by!

  11. I agree that as bloggers we should have integrity and our readers should be able to trust us. I've passed on some campaigns if I didn't believe in the company or the product too.
I'm going to join your hop for the first time later today! And I was thinking of sharing the infographic too...LOL. But I have a bunch of other stuff to include as well so may not, and my post will also probably end up being long!

  16. I know you don't know but one of the major online retailers criticized my review of a toy that they sent to us to try. (An aside and it's ironic that it was the last toy Abby ever got before she went OTRB) I was so upset because I had given them a what I thought was a good review, but I did it wrong in their eyes and the private email they sent to me (and I found out to others as well as I went public on the blog with the story) made me feel really bad. So I stopped doing any reviews. I went through a lot at the time with losing Abby and to have that on top of it was at that point uncalled for. So it matters a lot the type of people who are behind the scenes. But excellent post as always you have some of the best postings around!

    1. Oh I am so sorry that happened to you :(
That would definitely discourage someone from wanting to do reviews!
I haven't had that happen as of yet, and I hope I never have to go through that. What a shoot down :( That company was in the wrong telling you it was a bad review anyways. They have to know that when they ask us to do a review for them, it will done to out style and the way we prefer to write it, as it is OUR blog. How dare they!

Thanks SO much for your kind words, i'm so glad you enjoy my blog! I do my best to keep in entertaining and funny and at the same time, informative and giving great info to my readers. So thanks so much for your comment.

Right now my focus is on buiding my readership but me goal is to ultimately work with brands and have advertising on my site. There are so many factors to take into considersation and you covered alot of it wonderfully in this post. Thanks!
