Dogs can have ice cream too! - Adoptable husky OTW

Hiya everyone!
Thanks for popping by!
We are joining the Tasty Tuesday blog hop today with Sugar the Golden Retriever and Kol's Notes.

I was inspired by Sugar, when I read her post about doggy ice cream.
I used her recipe, but, I sort of cheated a wee bit!

A lot of people want to feed their dogs human ice cream, but what they don't realize is that some dogs can be super sensitive to dairy products.
So, this doggy ice cream recipe is a paw-fect treat for your pet!
Although, I have to say, I am not against giving your pet the odd, tiny bit of human ice cream, every now and again, (providing it does not upset their stomach) my huskies love it once and a while.

How about you? Do you give your dogs ice cream?

Banana, Peanut Butter, dog ice cream :
This recipe needs only 2 ingredients - bananas and peanut butter!
You can check out Sugar's original recipe for the ice cream HERE.

This is me, cheating at the recipe. Ha!
  • Mash 2 brown spotted bananas in a  bowl, until you get a paste like substance. Using brown spotted bananas makes it easier for you to mash.
  • Mix in a couple tablespoons of peanut butter
  • Mix and mash until everything is well blended
  • Place in a freezer safe container - Freeze overnight for a solid treat, or at least 2 to 3 hours for a softer treat.

I froze mine overnight, because my huskies prefer extra frozen-  it gives them a challenge!

Above is a collage of my pack, loving their Banana Peanut Butter Ice Cream!

Although, they always want more more more!
When they were done their treats, they all had a look of satisfaction on their faces!
It was a hot day, the kids were playing in the mini pool, and this doggy ice cream was a paw-fect treat for the huskies!

We are also participating in the Tuesday Tails blog hop.
This hop is hosted by Lisa from Dogs and Paws and Sue from Talking Dogs

Meet Demon :

Demon is available in Zanesville Ohio, from Howl At The Moon Rescue organization.

He is a male 7 year old Siberian Husky.
He may be getting up there in age, but he has a lot of life left to live!
His previous owners surrendered him to a pound where he was about to be euthanized.
That's when Howl At The Moon rescue stepped in.
Demon is so gorgeous, and he is explained as loving, and gentle.
He is great with all dogs and also kids. - Cats, unknown.

If you think you can give Demon the love he deserves, visit :
Howl At The Moon Rescue or see his Pet Finder page.

Even if you can't personally adopt this beautiful boy, sharing this post can help him in more ways then you could imagine!

  5. Hey you still made the ice cream, which is a win in my book! I was super lazy and just took the dogs to DQ ;) Even though they're not sensitive to dairy, it's still a rare treat!

I have given my huskies real ice cream before. They are fine with dairy.
But DQ? Now those were some lucky dogs!!!!

  6. Your babies are all so beautiful. :) I don't make special treats for my dogs. They either get Jones chews, or leftovers. Pizza crust is their favorite, but they also love liking the pan after we're done with a casserole. If the chickens don't get it first.

  12. At first I couldn't figure out how you cheated on the recipe, I had to go look at Sugar's again! Your way might be easier, especially if someone doesn't have a food processor or blender. I will have to try this sometime. We don't give our dogs ice cream much, but I make some different frozen treats with yogurt and fruit and such.
    I loved all your photos!
I hope Demon finds a home soon! He's a handsome guy.

  15. I love your version of frozen treats, it looks so easy - definitely going to try it. I freeze PB in Kongs for them but adding bananas and making chunks is a great idea! I sometimes give Isis & Phoebe just a tiny bit of vanilla human ice cream, but rarely, and never chocolate ice cream, since chocolate is toxic. Thanks for this fun idea.

  18. The boys love licking the bottoms of our ice cream bowls. Bentley can't eat it straight out of the freezer. I have to let it sit in the fridge for a couple of hours or he will get sick. Who in the world would name their dog demon and then give him up to be euthanized?!?! Let me guess...SATAN!!!

    1. Haha! That's what my huskies love too! Always licking the bottom of pur bowls!
