Hiya everyone!
Welcome to this weeks, Siberian Saturday.
Today, I like to focus on fun facts, or basically anything related to the Siberian Husky.

As always, we will be linking up with Ruckus the Eskie and his Sepia Saturday hop.

Did any of the answers surprise you?

Correct answers :
#1 False
#2 Sledding
#3 Stubborn and easily bored
#4 True
#5 True
#6 All of the above
#7 True
#8 Stand erect
#9 Spitz
#10 All of the above

Quick explanation for the trivia answers :
  • # 1 - Siberian Huskies do NOT make good guard dogs. As I have mentioned before, they would be the first to the front door, and invite the robber in for tea and cookies rather then protect the house! Which is why, it is a good thing that generally, if you come to rob a house which has huskies jumping all over the door....chances are, your not coming in, simply due to their look!

  • #2 - It is a known fact, that Siberian Huskies are commonly used for sledding purposes, however, more and more people want their huskies for their family pet rather then just a working dog
  • #3 - There are acceptations to every breed, however the most common husky trait is their stubbornness! They are incredibly loving, and love their people, there's no doubt about that, however they will give you their love on their own time. If you are looking for a breed that will do absolutely anything for you at any time . . . huskies are not for you!

  • #4 - A husky should never be trusted off lead. There are some people who argue with that. I used to be one of those people. When Mika was the solo husky of the house, I ALWAYS had her off leash, and she was great, until one day, she just took off. I tried again....she took off. I worked more and more on recall, and then tried again....she took off. Huskies ARE escape artists. They will run away, they will jump your fence, and / or they will dig UNDER your fence!

  • #5 - It's true! Siberian huskies have no doggy odor! Unless of course, they have gotten into something nasty! Huskies are like cats, in a sense that they care deeply about being clean. You will often find your husky tongue bathing, as a cat would.
  • #7 - Huskies have gorgeous eyes! This we know! But did you know that a husky can even have different colored eyes. Referred to as Bi eyed. My girl Mika is a prime example!
  • #8 - The ears of a Siberian, stand erect, although I have seen some Alaskan mixes which have ears that lay flat, almost like a Labrador.
  • #9 - Siberian Huskies belong to the Spitz group of dogs. Other breeds in this group include : Akita, American Eskimo, Malamute, Chow chow, Samoyed, and many more.
  • #10 - The answer to number 10, was all of the above. A husky is a food thief, an escape artist, and have a strong prey drive. They are famous for "counter surfing" so, don't leave any food around! Huskies are known as the Harry Houdini's of the dog world. They have been known to scale a fence up to 6 feet tall, and will dig under the fence as well. They also have a stronger prey drive then some other breeds, and need to be watched around small animals.
Is it possible to have cats and huskies?

Absolutely! I have 3 Siberian Huskies, and 3 cats, and they get along just fine! However, people should definitely be alert to their high prey drive and properly introduce a husky to a cat. To read my previous post on Cats and huskies, click HERE.

Don't forget to share how you did on our husky trivia! Thanks for playing along!

  4. Oh yeah, arctic dogs are stubborn and should NEVER be off-lead except in a fenced area. And Jen is ALWAYS outside with me, cuz even old dudes can jump a fence if the need arises.

    1. Yep, when I first adopted Mika, I decided that it couldn't possibly be true. Or I can beat the odds and bla bla bla. I am not ashamed to admit that I was wrong!
I don't doubt you can jump a fence with the rest of the young pups Rumpy!

  6. Fun post!! I was laughing at some of the questions - we know all too well don't we? But I think your key for question #1 is off, the key shows that True is the right answer but it's supposed to be false they don't make good guard dogs at all! As you say in the longer explanations, our Huskies are more like to invite them in for tea & cookies than attack! LOL! Thanks for a fun Saturday morning post!

  20. Oh I guess I have learned a lot from you, I got them all right. I wasn't sure about the Spitz question though, took an educated guess. Thanks for sharing.

  21. Well I skipped "which group" as I did not see working group... I just thought if it in AKC terms. And I did not ever experience the "food thief". Not in all my years with my own and literally hundreds of others in showing so I scored 80%. And you already know my strong feeling about Sibe & feline. :)
Fun quiz and isn't it great to have that fragrance free husky fur!
