Do our pets enjoy Halloween?.

Probably not!

Hiya everyone!
Halloween is fast approaching, and that means our beloved pets have been dressed in costumes by us humans purely for our own entertainment.

Don't get me wrong.
I AM one of those paw-rents who dress their pets in costume, and i'm not saying there is anything wrong with that at all!

All I am saying, is to please know your pets.
Our pets are our furry children, yes. However, they do not enjoy Halloween.
They do not enjoy seeing scary monsters knocking on the door and expecting candy, they do not enjoy the super spooky skeletons hanging everywhere, they are just not into it.

There are some dogs out there who do not mind costumes at all, and I think that is great!
But, if you have dogs like mine, my best tip would be to only put a costume on just long enough to take your photo.

Know your pet.
If your pet absolutely despises costumes, it's just not worth putting them through it.

Always make sure whatever costume you use is comfortable for your pet.

Things to check for would include :
- sharp edges
- tight fitting areas
- small pieces they could choke on
- loose threads.

A loose thread could get caught in between their toes, or on their claws, and can really hurt their paws if it were to get caught.

You will have a chance to see my Sibes in costume in the next few days!
So stay tuned, and keep your pets well being in mind while choosing your costume.

We are also taking part in the Tuesday Tails blog hop.

This hop was created for us to share pets in need of rescue and adoption all over the world.

Meet Bruce :

Bruce is a stunning young Siberian Husky.
He is full of love and energy, however he must go to a human who has experience with snow dogs.
Bruce needs a home with no small animals, and no children.
Not that he is not "good" with children, but the rescuers believe that he would be a bit much to have around toddlers etc . . .

He is food aggressive,  but is getting better. The rescue has been hand feeding him to help him overcome his protectiveness around food.

Boys like Bruce will take longer to get adopted, due to his experienced owner needs, so I ask you to please share his story as much as you can. He is a beauty, and needs a loving home just like so many others who are in shelters right now.

Bruce is available at the Northern California Sled Dog Rescue.
Please visit their site for more info.

Thanks so much for coming by everyone.

  1. Good question, and I think it does really just depend on the dog. Shiner likes wearing sweaters when it's cold outside. Costumes? Not so much. It just depends with her. Usually, we just take our photos and get it over with. If she's cold, I'll put a sweater on her and she's happy with that.

    1. Agreed. It definitely depends on the dog.
My huskies know that when I put something on them, it is only long enough to take the picture, so they have began to tolerate it, but there is no way they would let me keep it on them

  3. We are not worried about the big day except for fireworks which have already started and we have Fireworks Night coming up soon. Yikes. God points to consider though. Good luck to handsome Bruce. Have a terrific Tuesday.
    Best wishes Molly

    1. Fireworks? You guys do fireworks for Halloween? Or is there a different celebration happening? Personally I love them, but my dogs, not so much!

  5. That is a great point. I dress up my cats, but for some I just use props or photo editing. I love your Halloween designs for the blog. 15andmeowing

    1. Thanks! So glad you like my Halloween design!
I use photo editing a lot for these things too, but it just doesn't have the same feel as a real costume does it?

  7. We don't dress up much for Halloween cause my dogs hate it! I wish Diesel was going to be here for Halloween because I think he would enjoy dressing up! Bruce is gorgeous! Sharing.

    1. Yes, I bet Diesel would be a good sport for sure!
      Thanks for sharing Bruce :)

  8. Good advice. I've decided to skip the costumes this year and just go for some simple photos. Jack doesn't really mind - he'll do most anything, but Maggie hates it, so why subject her to it.

    1. Exactly. I love dressing my huskies up, but if they absolutely despised it, I just wouldn't bother

  9. Bailie and I don't mind costumes at all, but Katie really doesn't like to look silly, so she doesn't have to wear one. Mom puts a hat and/or glasses on her now and then and that is good enough. We don't want to force her if she doesn't want to.

    1. That's great :) I know you pups don't mind costumes, and you always look so fabulous in them too!

  10. Abby was the only one nonplussed by clothing. Annabelle doesn't even want a leaf of her head! I can't imagine trying to put an outfit on her. But, I know some animals do not mind and if that is the case I say go for it!

    1. Aw I bet Abby was gorgeous in her costumes too.
One of my kitties is not too bad with costumes, but I wouldn't dare attempt it on the others!

  11. I have come to terms with the fact that Mia does not care for costumes. I can do pretty much whatever I want to Leo, though. :)

  12. I totally agree. We don't dress up because the girls don't like it....and it's not a very good photo op when they just look pathetic...LOL. I might try with Luke though....he seems to be more tolerant of having things put on him. But I have to wait until he grows up a bit....he still wants to chew on anything I do put on him!

    1. Yes, I can definitely see Luke being more tolerable! Lexus is my model for these things mostly. I put a little something on each of them but Lexus is the one who doesn't mind the most :)
