My dog saved my life

"Studies show that dog owners as a whole
are physically and emotionally healthier
than their non dog owning counter parts."

You may remember back in November, I had a guest here on the blog. Her name is Jan Dunlap ; author of "Saved By Gracie."
Today, I am happy to reveal some details of the book with you all, as I have had the pleasure of reading it.

From November's guest post, I had a good idea of what the book was about, but I had no idea I would enjoy it so much!
This book will make you laugh, make you cry, and really make you think.

Jan hasn't always been a dog person.
Ok, she was terrified of them!
It was only when her youngest daughter pleaded and pleaded with her to adopt a dog, that she finally gave in.
Off to the shelter they went, and everything in Jan's body and mind told her "no, no I don't want a dog, I can't do this."
As a mother however, we often find ourselves doing things we are against, simply to make our children happy.

As the book unfolds, Jan tells us of her medical issues. Anxiety, depression, all things far too many people have to learn to live and suffer with every day of their lives.

Who knew her saving grace would be just that.
A dog named Gracie.
As the days went by, she began to realize how important Gracie was to her.

One of my favorite quotes out of her book is as follows :

"Again, she looked at the door, and then at me.
She panted. Her big brown eyes locked on mine.
She needed to go out.
And i'd have to take her.
I had to walk the dog.
A moment of near panic set in.
I had to walk a dog!"

Those words show just how fearful she truly was of this dog, and all others.

Time goes on and Jan realizes that through all these walks with the dog, sometimes 10 miles a day, she has began to notice things outside that she hadn't before. Beautiful things. She was actually enjoying herself. Finding peace. Jan and Gracie the dog.
Who knew?

Was it a miracle that a dog could possibly help someone so much and literally change their life of anxiety disorders? No. That is just the power of a bond between human and dog.

Guys this book is so powerful!
I urge you to read it! I thoroughly enjoyed the read, and there is so much meaning to it, it blew me away.  Heck, even my husky Lexus couldn't put it down!

"Excuse me humans, could you please keep it down, I am trying to read!"

"Ahhh, that's better"

    1. Yes it is. People underestimate the power of our pets so often until a situation like this arises and just blows you away with love and healing.

  9. This is a great review! I've had it on my reading list, but since I don't have a lot of time to read, I haven't gotten to it yet. Thanks for reminding me how much I do want to read it! As someone who didn't love dogs in the past (and I was just a bit afraid of them too), I know I will be able to relate to the story in that way.
