Working On A Solid Recall - Fun At The Outdoor Arena

Recall - an incredibly important tool to have in your training arsenal. I am constantly working on recall with my huskies. Huskies are known to run, and aren't entirely trust worthy off lead, however, teaching a solid recall can come in handy should your dog ever slip out the door, or get loose somehow. In my town, there is an outdoor arena I love to take the huskies too. Lately, the mosquitoes have been terrible, and I have avoided the dog park, so the arena has been a blessing!

My oldest daughter and I take the huskies down to set them free in the arena, work on some recall, and just have fun! Please excuse the poor photo quality. For some reason these turned out a bit blurry, but I still wanted to share them with you.

The huskies love running around with no leashes. Even though I never let them off lead in an area with no fence, I have faith that if I did, they would stay right by my side.

I jog laps around the arena, the dogs always stay right by my side. Of course they run off on their own as well, but the second I call their names, they come running!

Working On A Solid Recall
This took me a lot of work to get to the point where I trust them to come every time. Working on recall daily is important to me, as I have experienced them getting out, or slipping the lead before, and in a desperate panic, I realized I needed to start working on recall.

Yesterday evening, we took the whole family out for a walk by the river. The huskies favorite place to go is down those trails, so they were ecstatic when they realized that everyone was coming with us. After the walk, we dropped off a couple people, and my daughter and I took them down to the arena to work on some recall.

Take a moment to view our fun video, and watch the sibe's having a blast running off lead at the arena!

So much fun! Thanks for joining us in our recall off leash adventures, and hope to see you back tomorrow for a couple super fun blog hops that we co host - The Pet Parade and Flashback Friday!

Today's post was part of our Thoughtless Thursday blog hop.

  1. Oh my goodness Jenna! Your huskies look so happy running around in the arena!! They are such beautiful pups!! Our painter used to have two gorgeous huskies that would ride around in the back of his pickup truck. I could never figure out why they never, ever jumped out. They would just hang out in there whenever he came over to talk to us about a job. Such gorgeous dogs!

    1. I was SO glad when they built this arena. It was just put in this year, and I was thrilled to learn that there was no "no dogs allowed" signs and things like that.

  10. Huskies are not easy to train to come back off leash. We had one who ran away all the time. The only way to capture him as to get the car and offer him a ride. He loved the car more than running away!

    1. Exactly, and that is what they are known for which is why I will never let them off lead in an area which isn't fenced LOL! Still good to have a solid recall in my training arsenal.
