Introducing Your Pets To A New Kitten - Week 3

Here we are at week 3 of introducing your pets to a new kitten. If you missed the story of our rescue kitten, catch up here, and here. I am happy to announce that things have been going SO well with our little Robbi. As I mentioned in previous posts, I am taking our introduction very slow. I believe in patience and baby steps, and it is working beautifully. Siberian Huskies have a high prey drive, so when introducing any small animal into a home of huskies, it is important to help them see the animal as part of their pack, rather than prey. And that's exactly what we're accomplishing.

Introducing Your Pets To A New Kitten

Robbi is making herself right at home with the big dogs. In weeks 1 and 2, we were limiting interaction with the kitten and the huskies quite a bit, but Robbi now has the run of the house throughout the day (with constant supervision) however, she still sleeps in the spare room at night. I am feeling very comfortable with our success, but am not willing to risk anything with not being able to supervise at night.

As you can see, Robbi loves to snuggle up with the huskies. And the best part is, they don't mind one bit. She always crawls in between their paws to have a nap, and they won't move until she wakes. It's quite adorable.

Winter (my white kitty in the photo above) is getting along famously with little Robbi. Kiki on the other hand is taking her time getting used to having a kitten run around her area. Kiki is my princess kitty, she likes things her way, and isn't fond of having her space invaded. But I am confident she will come around.

The huskies are always so intrigued when they see Robbi investigating the house. I think they are fascinated by her. All in all, I couldn't be more happy with how our introduction is going. As Robbi gets a little bigger, she will be able to be out overnight as well, but until then, she will sleep in the spare room, for her own safety, and my ease of mind.

Today is also our #FlashbackFriday blog hop. I thought it would be fitting to share a flashback photo of little Robbi. This was taken the very first day we rescued her from outside. She has came a long way from the scared little kitten she was. You can clearly see the difference from looking at this photo, and the photos of her from earlier in the post.

  2. you are wise beyond your years! I LOVE how you are doing this! I hadn't known about Huskies having a high prey drive until I learned that from you. Robbi looks like she is doing quite well! Guess what? We have those same baby gates! They are great aren't they? I really want the kind that are wood and you can open the door to them and walk through them, but they are too pricey. You are doing a pawesome job and those photos are darling! xoxo

    1. YES! I love the baby gates! They come in very handy in more ways than one!!
And thanks for the compliment! My huskies get along very well with my other cats, and I wanted to be sure I did this one right too. Huskies are well known not to be great around small animals, but in my opinion, and experience, all it takes it proper introduction!

    1. She really is! I am thinking she thinks she is more of a husky than a cat though! hahaha!
