My Kitten Thinks She's A Husky - Week 4 Introductions

My Kitten Thinks She's A Husky
Introducing your kitten or cat into a home of dogs can be challenging. This will be my final week of bringing you through the journey of our introduction. If you missed our previous posts featuring my rescue kitten, catch up here: week 1, week 2, week 3.

Robbi the kitten finally has the run of the house. Since her rescue, I limited her interaction with the huskies, and the interaction they did have was under very close supervision. She is tiny, and mix a tiny kitten with 3 Siberian Huskies... extra care needs to be taken. Although, my sibes made me proud. They are gentle with her, they have accepted her as part of our pack, and they have now had so much interaction, I believe Robbi the kitten now honestly thinks she is a husky.

My Kitten Thinks She's A Husky

She is always trying to eat with my huskies. Even if the other two cats are eating cat food upstairs, Robbi would much rather stay down and mooch dog food from the sibes. And... they let her!

My Kitten Thinks She's A Husky

Heck, even her tail acts like a husky! Notice the good ol' husky curl in her tail? She does this often, and funny enough, it seems like she does it most when she walks beside one of the dogs.

My Kitten Thinks She's A Husky

My last piece of evidence in the "cat who thinks she's a husky" is shown in the photo above. Robbi is very attached to my huskies. The other two cats will lay upstairs by their cat tree and food bowls, while Robbi lays on the couch like one of the big dogs! If one of the huskies lays down, she jumps up right beside them and sleeps. So I officially have myself a 'Husk-itty!'

I hope you have enjoyed my journey through introducing your pets to a new kitten. Robbi has settled in nicely, and if there is one thing to take out of this series, it's that baby steps pay off!

Today is our Flashback Friday blog hop.

  6. When she starts wooing up a big song and starts leaving dust bunnies everywhere, then you may have to start worrying:)

  8. Robbi is such a little character - I'm impressed with how well it's going. I couldn't imagine all the micro-managing I'd have to go through introducing a kitten to our home - I definitely commend you for all the awesome work you've done.

    1. Thanks very much!! It has been a lot of work, but really so well worth it! I couldn't imagine having a house with 3 dogs and 3 cats, and none of them get along. It would break my heart!

  9. I took home my own black cat recently, but he's a senior and I had no idea how he'd do with my little dogs. I also did a very slow introduction, and like you, I monitored everything very carefully. My dogs accepted him, and he accepted them. I'm so glad to read stories like this, as I'm hoping it means more dog people will take on cats, too! So many of them need homes, especially during the summer kitten season.

  15. That kitten is so cute and it's great the dogs get along with it. Big Sam used to be so disappointed because he wanted to play with the cats and they would just saunter away ignoring him.
