Exactly Jan!!!! Sometimes it is just best to say, ok, this just isn't working. There is no need to carry on something where we are not making progress. Or it is even a good thing just to take a break at something you have been working toward if you find yourself at a stand still. Pick it back up in a couple months, and try again!

Oh boy! Don't get me started on pulling! I have lost count of the harnesses and different tools I have which I purchased to try and help with training my dogs not to pull. I simply cannot. I mean, they have got better.... my arm isn't always ripped out of my socket, but I just can't get to a loose leash for the life of me!!!

Caren, your comment means the world to me, thanks for that! I know exactly how you feel. When I see a lot of bloggers and how they have trained their dogs to do whatever it is they do, it kind of takes you back for a second or two. I wouldn't change a thing about my huskies, but there are things they just do not like doing, and it's just that simple. So I thought it would be important to share the fact that we are not perfect, no matter how our readers see us, behind the scenes, we are just us! And far from perfect at that!

I loved that post over on My Rotten Dogs. I'll be writing a response this weekend. It's so nice to read when others share that they're not perfect, because I feel sometimes that I should be, because our dogs so aren't perfect. But I love them anyway.

I love this, Jenna, and thank you. It is the truth of the matter....our dogs are not perfect but we love them completely anyway, even though we sometimes get frustrated with them. Roll over! I've tried that many times with Luke and gotten nowhere. The girls? Forget clicker training....they just don't want to get it!
And didn't I just finish bragging about Luke getting to Day 10 on the Relaxation Protocol? Guess what....Day 10 was the end of it. We hit a wall and he would not go any further. So I appreciate how you said that sometimes your dogs just say no and you accept that. I tried a few times with Luke but then we decided to just put it aside. So we focus on the things they do well at....he loves his tricks, and he's my best model. The girls...well they just excel at looking cute, and sometimes standing still so I can capture that in a photo. :)

I don't think there are any dogs out there that are perfect and we all have certain struggles or things that we wish were different. I have two dogs who want to hunt things, they have a hard time with loose leash walking, especially when there are critters or the scent of critters about. We work on it all the time, every single day. What I don't like is when people use their poor training skills or laziness as an excuse to use punishment based techniques or abusive training tools. That makes me sad. I have occasionally gotten frustrated with my dogs for whatever reason but when that happens I know that i just need to work extra hard with my training.

Oh goodness we have lots! We post from time to time our challenges. Today for example we posted about Boo and her irritability with sharing space with 3 other cats. Ping is a sprayer and began only after we got Abby. He continues to this day but it is a lot less. It is still an issue though. Carpets have been ruined and I won't replace them because WHY he'd do it again. I have two carpeted rooms he is off limits too because he will spray in them. Carpet should never he allowed in homes with pets. I swear my next home will be carpet free! I still love them, and the joy they give me is worth "things" but it is frustrating at times.
