Siberian Saturday - It's not a wolf, it's a husky!

Hiya everyone!
I hope your enjoying your weekend so far :)
We are having a pretty laid back weekend. Things have been super busy, so it's time for a break!

Today we are joining Ruckus the Eskie in his Sepia Saturday blog hop. You can join too! Just follow the linky code at the bottom of this post.

If your owned by a husky, you most likely will know exactly what i'm talking about in this post!

Husky Fun Fact :

Husky owners always get asked the CRAZIEST questions!

There have been so many times when I have taken my huskies out for walks, and been asked if they are mixed with wolves. When I answer no, some people have even tried to argue with me!

There are other times, when a husky owner will go to a dog park, and people are literally scared of your dogs, because of their wolf like appearance.

Some will even have the nerve to tell you, that there is no place in a dog park for dogs who look like wolves, as it "scares" people. This has not happened to me, BUT I know a few people, who have experienced this.
Our huskies have every right to be at dog parks!
It's a husky, not a wolf!

Loved this, and had to share it.
Those of us who are owned by Siberian Huskies, are asked these questions (in the photo above)  more often then you would think!

A lot of people think huskies only come in certain colors, such as grey, or black and white. Because of their thoughts, they will argue that your huskies are not pure bred.
What many people don't understand, is that huskies can come in all different colors, and even sizes too!

Check out this husky color chart.

The other one I like out of the above photo is
" no, they are not going to bite you . . . I might though!"

For whatever reason, people always think huskies are vicious!
Meanwhile, these dogs are one of the most loving gentle breeds out there!
Siberian huskies are amazing family pets, and are no more vicious then a Golden Retriever or a Beagle.
Of course you have heard stories about a vicious husky attack, we have all heard stories of several different breeds attacking. Let's not  blame the breed, shall we?

Another one I have heard a lot, is that Mika is not husky because she has what is called Bi eyes. One blue eye, and one brown eye.

If you go back to the link I posted earlier, and scroll to the bottom, you will see the husky eye chart.

So, basically I am thinking that I should make up a leaflet, as someone on FB suggested, and carry it around to hand out to people, before they start asking these questions. Ha!

These are my huskies, not my wolves!

I would also like to make a point, that Husky / wolf Hybrids can be pawfectly furiendly pups as well! Even if I was walking around with a hybrid, it doesn't mean he isn't furiendly! When in the proper care, they can make wonderful pets as well!

That's all from the Sibe tribe today guys, thanks for stopping by, and see you Monday!

  1. It's pretty funny that people would be scared of Huskies, I'm much more scared of Chihuahuas! Why do people always want to make things more complicated? Why do exotic looking breeds have to be a wolf hybrid?

They are absolutely stunning, and I must admit I've always wanted one but I don't think I'm well enough equipped to handle them.

Have a great weekend with your wolf pack :)

    1. I agree! I suppose most people are just skeptic of an animal which resembles a wolf, which is understandable, but before people make accusations, and assume certain things, they should really know the facts!
Its great that you realize you may not be a good fit for a husky. A lot of them end up in shelters because people do not realize how high energy this breed can be (among other things) if you are seriously interested in adopting a husky, please feel free to ask me any questions you may have. Thanks for popping by our blog :)

  3. *roll's eyes*Really? Lets face it all domesticated Dogs are decended from wolves even Chihuahuas and there are plenty of other breeds that have wolf like traits for looks wise the German Sheppard for one ,when I was very little we had one called Max he was huge and quite black in colouring but he really looked like a big black wolf more so than a husky...I guess there will always be people who are ignorant, love the leaflet idea though at the very least it will educate people,xx Rachel

  5. That's crazy! How could anybody be scared of a Husky? They are such beautiful dogs. I had a red Husky and he was awesome! He looked like a red fox. Not a mean bone in his body!

  6. I love how different looking each of your huskies are, and I especially love Mika's Bi eyes! That's all I would say if I met you in the dog park...."What beautiful dogs"! :)
Another thing I used to hear years ago was that huskies were "cat killers" - obviously so not true!! I think any breed could be capable of that, if they were perhaps not raised with cats and had a high prey drive (one of our cats was killed by the neighbor's German shepherd (a police dog yet)!

    1. Aww thanks!
And you know what, I don't mind people asking questions, in fact, my dogs are always a conversation starter. I just don't understand why people have to argue with you, about your own dogs!!! BOL!!!! Crazy people!
Your right about people assuming the cat killing thing. Huskies do have a high prey, but they CAN definitely be raised to live with kitties!!! :)
Dogs with higher prey drives need to be watched of course, but it is definitely doable!

    2. I had a Springer Spaniel called Boots he was from a line of champion gundog winners he loved to chase rabbits and birds because thats what he was breed to do But he lived and played with cats all his life and when I got my first rabbit Caramel he absolutely doted on thet bunny even the cats learnt to live in harmony with Caramel mind you that was one tough bunny he would chase other cats out of the garden growling,so there you have a prey animal living happily with animals with high prey intstinct, and Boots would still chase strange cats out of the garden too,but the funniest thing to see was a big cat clear a 6 foot fence all poofed whilest being chased by a dwarf belgian lop rabbit,xx Rachel

    3. BOL!!! Too funny! Thanks for sharing that story here :) So many people just assume because a dog has a high prey drive or is bred for one thing (hunting) that they can never be around small animals. Dogs are smart, and can be taught the difference between prey, and fellow pets, if people take the time to teach it. :)

  8. I think huskies are beautiful dogs and I don't find them scary at all. There are far more scarier dogs out there!

  9. People have so many misconceptions about different breeds. I am always cautious about any dog I don't know, but not because of the breed, just because I don't know their histories.
    Have a lovely long weekend!

    1. And that is absolutely normal. It's the people who see a certain breed, and automatically assume things, that bother me.
People do have a ton of misconceptions about breeds they know nothing about. Thanks for dropping by :)

  10. That is too funny. People can be so breed ignorant!

  11. Sheesh, some humans can be so silly. A husky isn't a wolf! And honestly, we haven't met a husky that we didn't like. They're such nice dogs!

  12. We always get those same questions, and it is amazing how many people are afraid of them. Mom always tells them they will kill you with kisses:) We are fortunate that both a local elementary and high school have the husky as their mascot - so more often than not we are recognized for the breed we truly are.

  14. Huskies are pretty whether they’re pure bred or not but TW is still kinda scared of them. Maybe if someone in the complex had one and she could pet it she’d change her mind like she did with pit bulls. Yesterday she saw a guy with a dog that looked more like a bear. She thinks it was an akita. Have a great weekend.

    1. Some people are scared of them, and that's absolutely fine if your not familiar with the breed. I am sure if you could meet one and see their fun loving personality, TW would change her mind :)

  19. So many humans are simply nuts! Mom had a husky growing up. He had a blue and a brown eye, and looked a bit like a wolf. They had lots of trouble because he howled a lot and he loved to run away and chase other dogs or the horses up the street. Since those days Mom has know lots of huskies and husky owners. Sure, they have a slight resemblance to a wolf or even a coyote, but anyone with half a brain can tell they are a husky!

    1. BOL!! Exactly! Or even if they don't.....at least they shouldn't sit there and argue with the huskies owner that they are wolves, or have wolf in them!
