The Returns book review - Adoptable husky OTW

~ Meet our adoptable husky of the week below , and see our PPP link ~

Hiya everyone.
Now that Monday is finally gone and done, let's get right down to some pawsome reviews!
Today we are super excited to bring you not one but TWO book reviews!
We don't do book reviews much, but there was no way I could pass up this opportunity.
I know some of my other blogging pals know Melissa from Barking from the Bayou.

She is a fellow co host of our Pet Parade blog hop which is held every Friday, she is a talented pet blogger, she is a proud mother, she is a great friend and she currently shares her life with her hubby, her Basset Hound named Bentley, and her daughters West Highland Terrier named Pierre.

Not only is M.K all of those things I mentioned above, but she is also a talented author of two books!

The Returns and The Returns 2 - Showstoppers

So what are her books about, I hear you asking?

Well, have you ever put any thought into what would happen, should you arrive at the pearly gates of heaven, far before the time you were meant to be there?

The first book starts with a couple of human detectives actively doing their job, hunting down a (fictional) notorious criminal, when the star of the book (Bentley the human) gets gunned down. Upon his arrival to heaven, he is told that his death was a mistake.
Now Bentley must go back down to Earth with his new guardian angel in training.
BUT.....the catch is, he comes back as a Basset Hound named Bentley. Which is ironic because while he was human, his nickname was hound dog, and was often doing Elvis Presley impersonations.

Now let me be clear for a moment.
Both of Melissa's books feature her current dogs, as well as some of her pets she has had in the past.
But this is not a story related to their "real lives" or anything to that effect. The book is 100% fictional, and for entertainment purposes, although, I have to say, she captured their personalities very well!

Bentley learns how to live and cope with being in his new dog form, with the help of his guardian angel as well as a house full of other pets whom have also came back as "returns" (humans, now in pet form)

As luck would have it, Benltey ends up meeting up with his former (human) partner after hacking into some old police computer files. The twosome team up once again, and continue their search for the notorious criminal, which started the whole book. But, now they have a team, they call themselves, The Returns!.

Listen guys, I gotta tell ya....these are not the type of books that I typically purchase. My reads include Game of Thrones, Pillars of the Earth etc...but after I finished this first book, I could not wait to start reading the second one! I thoroughly enjoyed The Returns.

There is just so much to love about it. Melissa has a great way of adding subtle humorous jokes throughout the book, as well as many touching moments. It is entertaining to the bone!
I literally got through these books so quickly, as they were hard to put down.

Now let me introduce you to The Returns 2 - Showstoppers

I wondered after the first book, where else book two could possibly go, and found myself hoping it could live up to The Returns (book one)
I was not disappointed!
Equally entertaining, and keeping with the continued story of the first book, this one also branches off into a whole new set of dilemmas and criminals that need to be caught!

Aden (Bentley's human partner) gets word from the precinct that there is a dog napper who has been stealing dogs from famous dog shows. This is a job for The Returns, and they live up to everything you would expect after reading book one.
Pierre the Westie, who is a return as well, has to go under cover to star in the dog show while the rest of the team does their best to crack this new case!
There is a few more "returns" introduced in this book, one of which develops a romantic relationship with Bentley's co - return. A gorgeous Golden retriever named Tucker.

M.K wraps up this book beautifully as she closes the story and leaves lots of room to have you wanting more for book 3.

All in all we give these books 12 paws up!

The Returns :  Paperback - $11.66 Kindle - $2.76

The Returns 2 - Showstoppers :  Paperback - $11.66 Kindle $3.85

Thanks everyone, and have a Happy Tuesday!
